THUMB-SUCKING, PACIFIERS, AND DENTAL HEALTH

Many parents may be concerned if their child continues to suck their thumb or use a pacifier beyond their toddler years.

The truth is there is no set rule for when your child should stop. Years of thumb-sucking or pacifier use can in fact cause dental or speech problems, but typically not until the child is around 4 or 5. Plus, children usually stop thumb-sucking naturally as they become more active in their preschool years and beyond.
